Crawling 101 & New Pictures
Anna is taking the longest nap of her life (three hours and counting), which gives me plenty of time to finally get these pictures online.
- May, 2012 Pictures – some good portraits on the back porch, and meeting the Andersons
- June, 2012 Pictures – lots of great pictures from Carrie & Eric’s wedding and Anna’s first solid food
- July, 2012 Pictures – chewing on fingers, mostly
- August, 2012 Pictures – the emergence of the duck face
Also, I got lucky and captured Anna’s best crawling yet this morning. Anna is officially on the move:
Early Morning Anna
Anna woke us up early this morning, so I shot a couple videos of her trying to crawl. Sorry for the low quality – I should really start using the good camera instead of my phone more often.
Anna’s first Feature
Anna grabs my phone and shoots her own video
Anna is Learning how to Laugh!
Grandma Parrott brought Anna home last night, and hung out with her until Maria got home so I could finish up some work. Once Maria got home, Grandma Parrott started telling this story about how some Walmart employees were unhelpful and Anna suddenly broke into laughter at an impression.
This is by far the most Anna has ever laughed, and also the only time I’ve ever heard her laugh without being tickled.
A Rainy Saturday Morning
Anna woke us up early on this gloomy Saturday morning. Since it was raining, we couldn’t go to the farmer’s market so we just sat around on the couch for a while. Anna played with her new giant hippo puppet from Great Grandma & Grandpa Ryan.
Anna Playing
Anna loves hair for some reason. Here she is a few minutes into playing with Maria’s hair.
Here’s a video of Anna’s newly discovered laugh! It’s brand new – she’s still learning how to use it.
Anna Talking and Smacking her Lips
Anna likes laying on Maria’s lap and talking to the ceiling. Here she is in action!
And maybe she isn’t so much smacking her lips as she is trying to eat her own face. Either way, it’s weird.
Anna Rolling Over
Stop the presses! We’ve caught it on tape:
11 Week Update
It’s been a while since we’ve had an update on Anna, and there’s a lot to tell. She’s doing very well, and learning new things every day. Here’s a list of all the fun new things she’s doing.
A couple of weeks ago she made a leap where she started really looking at things and studying them. She loves looking at colors now (especially her plastic rings), and now she’ll sit with Mom and listen to a story so long as she can look at the pictures. She’s also getting a lot stronger, so she can sit in your arms and look all around. There are a few things in the house that she always zeros in on when we walk around – a plant, a picture on the refrigerator and her mobile are big ones.
This advancement seems to have brought with it the need for naps. She used to just fall asleep for little cat naps all day, but now she gets worked up and needs to be calmed down and actually put down to rest for a while. We usually just snuggle her up with a blanket on the couch next to us.
Anna is also stretching her sleep at night – in fact, last night she went over seven hours between feedings, and slept for over six! That’s her longest stretch ever, and I just stayed up afterwards, so I think we can stretch it to say she slept through the night, even though she woke up at 4am.
I’m hoping she may discover her hands soon, as she’s starting to move them around in new ways. She holds her hands together a lot, and brings them to her mouth and grabs things with an iron grip. She hasn’t shown any understanding that she can control these things just yet.
We had a big milestone a couple of days ago when Anna rolled over for the first time. She has come close a time or two since, but it’s still pretty random. It was fun to see, though, and she seemed happy about it.
Finally, she has started babbling quite a bit. It really just started a couple of days ago, and now she’s gurgling all the time. Here’s a video of her listening to a story with Mom and talking just a little. Since this video she’s started using some more consonant sounds, but she also still does this repeated sighing noise a lot.
